About The Rules w/Focus on #8 "Get V1 Out Fast"

I am not sure which rule applies in this case. I think there are 2. Probably more. Most of the rules are sort of related, there is an implied connection ... wait, there is a actual connection in that they are all rules to scaling with velocity.
Alright, rules under a certain umbrella are all related becuase they are under the same umbrella. So, the saftey rules of tricycling, look both ways, no riding down the stairs, off the diving board, etc. They are different rules, but they are the same category.
Yep. Total waste of 80ish words. But it was helpful for me. There is another reason, which is more obvious, or less, depending on whether I can get my thoughts togethers under a single theme.
I want to see how The 12 Rules of Scaling materialize into usabilty, process, design and functionality (maybe all the same words). For example, how does "Be the pain killer, not the aspirin" materialize on a site like Wordpress. Right now, it is my source of pain. But it has nothing to do with the tool, more to do with central Texas cedar allergies, freezing temps last night, too many beers, and other stuff. I need a painkiller and some aspirin (and one shot of tequila would help).
I haven't even started on the reason I started this blog this morning!!! I want to discuss one of the 12 rules. I need to focus though. I want to discuss one of the 12 rules. I need to focus now. I want to dig into one (maybe 2) of the 12 rules. I need to focus though. I want to explore one of the 12 rules. I need to focus hocus pocus. Ok. I am ready
I thought about being the first user. Since there is nothing to use at this point, I am gonna skip ahead to number 8. Btw, Matt's 12 Rules for Scaling, are great rules for STARTING. I mean, if you look at the 12 rules and then look at a simple template for a startup business plan on docstoc or packaged templates in OpenOffice you will find that they are very similar.
Future blog topic: 12 rules compared to basic business plan.
So I'll start with number 8. Get 1.0 out as soon as humanly possible. {side note, this is really really hard, I wrote this in January '09 and V1 is not out} Your successful product or service will probably be very different than your initial product of service. I am trying, really, really trying. But the reality is that getting to the starting gate has been hard. The idea has gone under seriouly sweet refinement. It started with a brick&mortar service concept and morphed into a web2.0ish [leverage everything and everybody, empower the small fish, save the world, power to the community, eat better food (unrelated)].
Right now we are prioritizing functionality. A simple homegrown formula. 4 parts customer usefulness to 1 part high revenue generating features. We need to get a solid user base and meet a specific need, but we also want something that the few with mullah can sense profit from.
I think we are on a good path to get out 1.0 soon{ was I ever wrong!}, really soon. Soon feels like 5-6 weeks this morning. But I also feel crappy this morning, and have to go to a workshop in 20 minutes that might be good, or might cripple my creativity for weeks. So "soon" may mean something totally different 217 minutes from now.
