Cap and Trade bad for America and Technology

Cap and Tax is a more accurate description for H.R. 2454: American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 also known as Cap and Trade.
It has nothing to do with clean energy or security.
I was involved with the design of a 2MW windmill generator (the ultimate GreenMachine) by supplying the highest grade magnetic material with the best properties needed for this application. Processing of this special high tech magnetic material had to be done in Germany which is one of the countries that signed up for this "pollute and pay" scheme. Since the design team for this ultimate greenmachine knew that they would have to pay extra for tax on pollution producing this material, they demanded that the materials be made in China where they can pollute without paying taxes. How's that for hypocrisy? Pollute the world by producing the ultimate green power machine. This Bill will have Zero effect on the world environment.

Now if H.R. 2454: Cap and Tax passes, we have less security/privacy. Government workers will be able to monitor our energy consumption, inspect our homes, and fine us for whatever they feel is not "compliant"
If passed, Cap and Tax would give the federal government UNPRECEDENTED control over the private sector -- and our very lives.

Big Government bureaucrats in Washington would effectively be able to tax businesses for emitting more carbon dioxide than they think is “appropriate.”

Just as bad, they’ll be able to demand you change your way of living -- forcing you to “retrofit” your house with “government-approved” light-bulbs, refrigerators, water heaters, toilets, air conditioners, and whatever else they can dream up.

In fact, the Cap and Tax Bill SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZES intrusive home visits by government snoops, empowered to sniff around your basement, climb into your attic and search your closets. This is really the hidden agenda behind the "Smart Grid" Government will be able to monitor and ration your energy usage.

Cap and Tax is just another excuse for Big Government to reach their greedy little hands deep into our wallets. Need I say more; H.R. 2454: American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 is bad for America and our Freedom.

There is an important underlying concept behind situations of this sort that has little to do with arguments over philosophy (big or small government) privacy rights, or control issues. That concept is responsibility -- both personal and business.

When people and organizations fail to act responsibly - in this case by failing to self regulate or follow voluntary guidelines - and thereby create a hazard or danger to others, or inflict harm on others, government steps in, fills the void, and reduces or manages the harm. Government responds to the needs of citizens in harm's way. Maximum blood alcohol level for drivers is one example.

The growth of "big government" is, to a large degree, not fueled by a desire for government to become larger, more powerful, and take on bigger responsibilities. It is, instead, driven by the desire of its citizens to become smaller and take on less.

This is neither a defense nor an attack on "Cap and Trade," having nothing to do with the specifics of the legislation, nor is it an attack or defense on philosophies of government (big or small).

It is a description of one (possibly the primary) socio-political mechanism by which we arrive at these junctures. It is the slope, not the slipperiness.
