Hi all,
I learned recently that the U.S. Department of Labor is crowd-sourcing ideas for helping people find jobs. From the website:
"Attention workforce development professionals, job seekers, and the public: The Department of Labor invites you to help us identify the best on-line job search and career advancement tools!"
INSTRUCTIONS:
While you're there, give some love to other local organizations in the mix:
Voting ends next Friday, January 15th, so please vote now! It literally take one minute. Let's show the DOL what Austin is doing right!
Thank you!
Matt
did it ... just 37 "thumbs up" so far. i bet the number is over 150 by monday afternoon.
Thanks! And well I couldn't complain if that were the case on Monday morning :)
Voted and moved up to 81, did not see a place to put any comments.
If you click on the door64 link above, there's a plus sign where you can click to post a comment. Thanks!
clicked it up to 89!
93 at 8:55 am :-)
Thanks all! 114 by 11:10am. Looks like the site is getting pounded, so please check back if you can't get through.
Up to 119.. I had to try a few times to finally get it to load.
Very cool to see the department of labor embracing technology like this and supporting niche networking organizations.
Hey everyone, just to make this quick, the Door64 URL for you to vote is: http://dolchallenge.ideascale.com/a/dtd/20827-5847 it's only at 137... we can do better! :) Make sure the number increments because I had to vote a twice for it to work.
Thanks Elizabeth :) Yep, out of 6500 newsletter subscribers, I figured we could do better than 147.
Hey Matt, if you are really serious about this, (and I think for you it would be worth it) you may just want to e-mail everyone again with the direct URL to vote with a quick short message just before the deadline. I was @ work when I voted (so busy and not completely focused) and was looking for door64 in a couple of the "categories" in the left hand navigation (and not finding it) for a while before I realized there was a search box at the top where I could just type in the name. They are not in alphabetical order (they were in order by popularity or by date submitted so not as easy to "click over to it" as it should be.) I think maybe this may be why you don't have the numbers you should have? Also, as I said previously, when I initially voted, the number did not increment. I had to vote twice to make it stick. Cheers!
Elizabeth - thanks for the suggestion. Just curious - when you voted, did you follow the instructions above exactly? I went over the instructions myself before publishing this post to make sure it worked. If you go right to the door64 page first (skipping to step #3) and click the thumbs-up icon, it will ask you to login, but once you do the vote is not incremented. That's why I wrote them in order of logging in (#1-2), and then going to the door64 page to click the thumbs-up icon.
Let me know - maybe I got my instructions wrong. Thanks!
Done. Incremented. Closing in on 140.

Hi Matt! Yes, I followed the directions exactly. It was step number 3 where I had problems. "Click over to Door64's page." It was not exactly obvious where it was. The organizations are not alphabetical. They are listed in order of "Top Rated" or "Recent." And it is not obvious which Category Door64 is in. After checking in several categories and not finding it, I noticed the search box and just typed "Door64" and it popped right up. I noticed your direct links below that to the other two (and voted for them also.) That was when I thought it would be easier for all 3 to have direct links. Of course, I probably just missed something, as I said, I was at work and not totally focused (trying to do it in the fastest way possible.) Hope this helps! Cheers!

Looks like door64 made the "cut" (not sure what that means, but we're mentioned)!

Not just mentioned, but near the top of the list... which I think is probably a very impressive feat given that some of the other sites mentioned are large international sites with loads of members...
Yep, I noticed that too...however, I think that's a function of the "D" in door64 and the list being in alphabetical order.
Regardless, I'll gladly let door64 take top-of-the-list :)
Woops... hadn't noticed the list was alphabetized... A good bit of fortune though at least...
