We're a free community of over 18,000 Texas technology professionals here to network and promote our local tech scene.
If you're working in semiconductors, hardware, software, or IT in Texas, join us!
In April 2009 we held our first-ever grass-roots door64 Tech Fair in Austin: a community event to exhibit local technology companies...from budding start-ups to the big guys.
The premise of this undertaking was simple:
Exposure breeds opportunity.
When enough exposure is given to local tech companies from our technology professionals in the workforce AND those who own other related businesses, good things happen. Benefits may include (but are not limited to):
In addition, we held three packed talks to help attendees walk away with more expertise than they arrived with. Read some of the testimonials from the event.
So my question: Is anyone interested in participating in a door64 Tech Fair 2010?
If so, I am looking into a much a larger venue that would accommodate more people, cars, and tables for businesses. Last year we were cramped, and there were issues that occurred late in the game that caused that. I obviously want to avoid that situation this year.
The table cost will remain low (in the hundreds of dollars per 6 ft. table), versus the normal conferences costs in the thousands.
I also envision holding free workshops throughout the day, similar to last year. Local speakers helping local people, and getting excellent exposure in the mean time.
Feel free to comment below, whether with level of interest, ideas, or willingness to participate as a speaker or company.
Thanks!
I was wondering it you would be interested in having MySQL at the event? Not a local product, but many of us working on it are local. We might be able to swing a presentation on Replication or Cluster, or some other cool part of the database.
Best wishes,
Hi Matt,
I would like to attend this event again. I firmly believe it was a great opportunity to not only show our services but to meet the extaordinary talent your orginazation brings to the table.
Just tell me where to show up!

I'll definitely go.

I wasn't a member of door64 last year and, consequently, did not know about this event. But it is something I will attend if it is held this year. I may or may not be in a position to be an exhibitor, depending on the event timing and near-term progress.

Yes please-TH
Matt, do you have a projected date for the event yet? We're planning a similar event in early October.
I'd also be happy to participate in one of the "talks" or seminars, assuming that I'm not on travel.
Currently thinking about April, since that's the same month we had the first Tech Fair in '09.
I'm interested in attending. How soon before booth prices are known? Also, will you have electrical outlets so we can use laptops and projectors if we want to use them?
Dave
Thanks David. It all has to be worked out.
By the way, I'm open to suggestions for relatively inexpensive places to hold this event. My #1 priorities are space, parking, electrical outlets, and cost. I have one idea for where to hold it this year, but my concern is the electrical outlets available.
Hotels typically cost way too much, and parking is horrible (esp. if downtown).
Hi,
I work for an open source data integration company and I'd be happy to present a workshop on how to use our free and open source data integration tools to solve a variety a problems.
We could cover loading flat files into databases, data transformations (e.g. re-formatting dates, computations, aggreations, etc), as well web services and other more advanced topics around data integration.
Please let me know if there is any interest and I'd be happy to set aside time for this.
Best,
Thomas Cook
ps. I also wanted to point out that this is not a local tech company, but the tools can be of great value to local companies, and I am local. I realized after posting this that this was a showcase of local tech companies.
While I did not attend last year's event, I think this is a remarkable opportunity that you are creating for the Austin Technology Industry. We have all had our shares of ups and downs and this is most definitely an up.
Thanks Matt for your great efforts.

It looks like something I would be interesting in attending. Although I would not be an exhibitor I might be able to contribute in other ways.

Hi Matt. Advanced Tactical Systems would be interested in attending again. The event last year was first rate...we look forward to it.
I am planning a trip to the Austin area in late March through mid April. Please get some dates for the Tech Fair confirmed ASAP! I don't want to miss it.

We will most likely be interested again at Axelo.

Thanks all. I don't have dates confirmed yet; still in the planning stage. However, I am enlisting some outside help to get this moving. Stay tuned.
The Lone Star Ruby Conference has been using the Norris Conference Center. As an attendee, I have been quite impressed by the facility and the personnel. I strongly recommend checking it out.
To all who were interested, the date has been set for the 2010 Tech Fair. Accepting applications for tables now!
