A+ is a certification showing a broad understanding of computer technology. There are two sections: hardware and software. Hardware discusses the CPU, all associated parts, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, modems, and probably other items I've forgotten. The software portion discusses the Windows operating system.

When I took it, I had a fair computer-based-training course at my work site, but I augmented my studies with a book by Michael Meyers (note the spelling). He also had a book on Network+. Also check out Exam Cram, but I think the full option will cost you.

It also comes with a 6 month full access subscription to ExamForce aka Crammasteronline, which is a very comprehensive exam prep tool.
