A+ is a certification

A+ is a certification showing a broad understanding of computer technology. There are two sections: hardware and software. Hardware discusses the CPU, all associated parts, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, modems, and probably other items I've forgotten. The software portion discusses the Windows operating system.

When I took it, I had a fair computer-based-training course at my work site, but I augmented my studies with a book by Michael Meyers (note the spelling). He also had a book on Network+. Also check out Exam Cram, but I think the full option will cost you.

Hey All. I don't know of any

Hey All.

I don't know of any FREE courses, but I have an online video instruction course for the full A+ Essentials and Practical Application (2009 Objectives) that costs only $239 and you get a 3 month subscription to it. It also comes with a 6 month full access subscription to ExamForce aka Crammasteronline, which is a very comprehensive exam prep tool.

If you could find any free stuff on youtube, etc...it would probably be snippets of the outdated material, (2006), which they don't proctor exams on anymore.

Here's what's covered in 2009:

Overview:
In this course, students will install, upgrade, repair, configure, optimize, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on basic personal computer hardware and operating systems.

Who Should Attend:
The target student is anyone with basic computer user skills who is interested in obtaining a job as an IT professional or PC technician. In addition, this course will help prepare students to achieve a CompTIA A+ Certification.

At Course Completion:
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: - identify the components of standard desktop personal computers. - identify fundamental components and functions of personal computer operating systems. - identify best practices followed by professional personal computer technicians. - install and configure computer components. - install and configure system components. - maintain and troubleshoot peripheral components. - troubleshoot system components. - install and configure operating systems. - maintain and troubleshoot installations of Microsoft Windows. - identify network technologies. - install and manage network connections. - support laptops and portable computing devices. - support printers. - identify personal computer security concepts. - support personal computer security.
