Nominate Austin for Google's "Fiber in Communities"

This was passed along to me -- see below:

"As you may already know, Google is looking for cities in which to locate their experimental, ultra high-speed fiber network pilot project. Austin is responding to the company's Request for Information in a big way, and spreading the word in the community for individuals and community organizations to put in their responses as well. The deadline for responses is March 26.

The network will provide households up to a hundred times the speed of ordinary broadband internet access, enabling a whole new generation of online applications and services.

The people of Austin already know it has the high-tech credentials and tech-savvy culture that make our city the ideal location for an advanced technology like this, but it's important to get the story out. We know Austin has the ideal business and creative climate to host this transformative initiative, but what we need to do now is make sure Google understands that Austin is the ideal community for the project.

What we need is for you - either as an individual or as a community group - to complete the "community application" by visiting www.biggigaustin.org and click the nominate Austin link. The key parts to complete of the application form is your business or individual name, and the "why recommend Austin". It's easy!

Note you must have a Google e-mail address to do this part.

Then, be sure to explore other apps on the website and spend some time building more community support with the other apps - take a look at the interactive map and the YouTube channel. Join the Facebook group and the Twitter feed, see what other people are writing about biggig and submit your own ideas. Help us show Google why Austin is ready for the Big Gig!"
