Question for Developers

cm.lund's picture

If you are a very non technical person and have a great idea for a mobile app and/or application for different platforms where would you go about finding a developer to propose a business venture to in order to find someone to help develop the application??

I am a recruiter, but haven't recruited for myself before, so not so sure of that process. At this point I just have the idea and it is no where from being off the ground, but just wanted to see if anyone had advise.

Here's an idea: meet

Here's an idea: meet developers who are passionate about the technology (mobile apps, iPhone development, Android, etc) - at user groups, conferences, happy hours. You want to find someone you 'click' with - not necessarily the person with the most impressive resume.

In addition, you need to decide how you want to handle the business end of things: do you want to fund the venture yourself? find investors? find someone to build the app out of their own good will? Depending on which direction you want to take, you need to network with entrepreneurs, investors, open-source developers, etc. Again, as you meet people and educate yourself on the process, you will have a better idea how to proceed.

This is probably as good a way as any - ask for help in a public forum.

Reply to me privately and we can talk about what you want to do.

I just had a few discussions

I just had a few discussions recently with people looking for developers in the same or similar situation. Non technical persons usually don't understand how much time it takes to develop an app or web application. One developer may be able to create a simple early version as a proof of concept. A working business application for different platforms usually takes a whole team, though. What many people also forget is that an application for a business is never ever finished!

I suggest you find a developer to just talk and get a sense of what it takes to develop an application based on your idea. Also think and ask what it takes to maintain the application in the future.
