Product Problems: Complaints flood Seagate over hard drive failures

Seagate Technologies' online support forum has been riddled this week with complaints from owners of the high-capacity Barracuda 7200.11 hard drive, which in recent months had already drawn some complaints that the drive has been freezing up during data transfers or failing all together.

Yep, I had two of those - 1TB capacity. I sent them back to the retailer for a full refund because they were clicking all over the place. Obviously defective from the get go. This problem you mentioned sounds like a long-term issue though.
I have had pretty good luck
I have had pretty good luck with the last couple Seagate drives I bought, but they were ATA133. I just built a new home server over the weekend and I put in a Maxtor 1TB SATA... they were on sale for $99 at Fry's. I guess I'm glad I didn't pay the $199 they wanted for a similar Seagate. Hopefully this Maxtor will be a good one. The last few Maxtors I've had have failed, but they were in my TiVo, which may be harder on drives than a typical desktop computer.
