Get worse? They are pretty freakin' bad right now. Though Austin does have a nice techie support infrastructure already. (Door64 for example).
There may not be specific social org's for laid off folks but at the end of the day even with all the tools and networking and support that Austin does have most would chuck it all into lake Austin for a real job paying real $$$.
