Bob Carnaghi has requested / recommended we cover compiling php/apache from source. I will put together a demo of how do do this under CENTOS 4 Linux (free version of RHEL 4). Here are things I plan to cover:

1) compile basic PHP and Apache from source
2) Compile MySQL from source
3) recompile PHP to add/remove libraries, and understanding library dependencies
4) how to compile and add PECL or external shared libraries to PHP
5) Why bother compiling any of it from source when it comes with your Linux distro?
