Many people in the Agile community associate modeling with big-design-up-front and heavy waterfall-like software development processes. Unfortunately, tool vendors have often re-enforced this perception with complicated tools that are hard to learn and inflexible to changing technologies. Despite the negative connotation, modeling is common practice in many Agile teams. In this presentation, Ian Buchanan will explain how Agile teams may get started or improve their modeling practices. Ian will discuss:
* Benefits of modeling for Agile teams
* Effective modeling practices for Agile teams
* Emerging technologies of particular interest to Agile teams
* Modeling trends to watch

Ian Buchanan is currently a freelance consultant, specializing in model-driven approaches to software development. Ian has been advocating Agility and working with enterprise Agile teams for over 8 years. Previously, Ian worked at Borland as Director of Product Management for CoreALM products. Ian played a key role in numerous process improvements at Borland, including participation in Borland's Cross-Product Architecture Team and driving Agile practices such as Scrum into the Borland Engineering organization. In addition to Ian's passion for Agile practices, he advocates for Generative Software Development approaches such as OMG's MDA and participates in the Eclipse development community.
