Program: “Using the Cost of Quality Approach for Software”
Synopsis:
Cost of Software Quality (CoSQ) is a simple management technique that enables our understanding of the economic tradeoffs involved in delivering and supporting high quality software. Although this technique is commonly used in manufacturing and its adaptation to software offers much promise, it has seen little use by the software community to date. This presentation discusses the context, rationale and definition of CoSQ, as well as, organizational implementation issues. Benchmark examples from industry leaders will be presented. The relationship of CoSQ to other software success factors is also discussed. It is asserted that the proliferation of this approach will help eliminate the wide-spread and debilitating effects of poor quality software.
