The relentless pursuit to drive cost out of IT (and software development in general) has created demand for better measurement of development efficiency. Agile really appeal to these demands and Agile organizations have a proven track record for driving cost out of software development. However, overall effectiveness of development organizations remains difficult to measure and manage. This session will explore ways to address this issue both from an organizational perspective as well as begin the dialog for developing measurement capabilities to demonstrate overall effectiveness.

Torsten is the CTO of Acorn Systems, a certified Scrum master and an agile practitioner. He led the agile transformation to Scrum at Acorn Systems almost 4 years ago. Acorn has multiple scrum teams spread across three world-wide locations with 25 active practitioners. Torsten also pushed to involve his peers from outside the development organization to participate in the agile planning and implementation process to better align the organization and reduce time to market for various projects. Prior to Acorn, Torsten led various projects at BMC Software, where he adapted XP practices to several projects in the mid 1990s. Torsten also has extensive experience with the Fagan inspection method, which was adapted from lean. Torsten has presented to both agile practitioners and executives. He’s participated as panelist at the Rally Executive Forum and Insight Agile Forum. He’s also co-presented with Ryan Martens on a webcasts and at the Insight Software Development Conference.
