Pecan Street Project Update

This month's guest speaker for Crude Awakening Austin will be Mr. John Baker, the Chief Strategist with Austin Energy, and the topic will be an update on the progress of the Pecan Street Project (PSP) and its projected impact on the lives of Austinites. Austin Energy representatives have participated in Crude Awakening meetings in the past, and the result has always been clear, authoritative information that addresses key concerns and curiosities about the energy posture of the city and its famously progressive municipally-owned utility.

Crude Awakening is a grass roots Austin group committed to studying the reality and impact caused by Peak Oil and the dependence on fossil fuels. Our approach is apolitical, and seeks to identify constructive ways to promote public awareness and identification of various mitigation strategies, from individual lifestyle choices to policy initiatives. We are also assessing the viability of undertaking a sponsored film series to help draw interested people to better understand the array of issues--environmental, social, political--associated with Peak Oil and its effects.
