Central-Texas Chapter of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Society
Topic/Title: EMC/EMI Issues in Biomedical Engineering
Speaker: Dr. Ji Chen, Associate Professor, University of Houston
Abstract: This presentation will discuss the interactions between electromagnetic devices and biomedical systems - in particular, a human being - and describe how these interactions lead to safety considerations for medical devices and patients. The presentation will show how Computational EM analysis is proving to be a valuable tool for modeling the interactions. The low and high frequency modeling techniques developed by his team will be described, including data which validates the CEM techniques by comparing test case results with results obtained through other well accepted analytic methods. The presentation will focus on electromagnetic devices such as walk-through metal detectors and MRI RF coil and their effects human subjects and implanted devices.
