The Value of Scrum in Distributed Teams

We often hear that teams need to be collocated to make Agile successful. The reality in the software industry today is we have very distributed teams. Some of us have offshore teams which are critical to building our products. Learning how to leverage Agile in distributed teams is key to our success. There are some key benefits with Scrum practices which help make distributed teams more productive. This presentation will share how Zilliant has benefited from Agile teams distributed around the globe and lessons learned over the last 5 years.

Beth Weeks is currently the VP of Engineering at Zilliant, an industry leading Price Optimization and Management enterprise software company. She has 24 years experience building highly productive teams and leveraging valuable offshore teams in the mix. During the last 5 years at Zilliant, she has leveraged Agile best practices for fueling productivity across a distributed engineering organization. Prior to Zilliant, she held numerous leadership roles at Vignette Corporation where she gained valuable experience building an enterprise application suite containing content management, portal and eCommerce capabilities. Prior to Vignette, Weeks held several engineering leadership roles while working for Intergraph Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama. Weeks graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky with degrees in both computer science and mathematics.
