Relocating out of Austin

Is anyone out there who is looking for work at the point where they are ready to consider relocation out of Austin? I ask because I occasionally get recruiters pinging me about opportunities out of state (and sometimes in DFW, Houston, etc) and generally I just turn them away. I know most Austinites would rather live in a cardboard box under an I35 overpass or wear the orange apron at Home Depot than move, but if anyone is interested I could share some of those leads with y'all.

As a starter in that direction, Robert Neelbauer, a recruiter in my LinkedIn network from the DC/Baltimore area is looking for a number of people, primarily web developers, but he said he could also place some chip design/verification people (FPGA/Verilog) and others. If you are interested his url is http://www.jobmatchbox.com or email to email@jobmatchbox.com

If anyone is interested in seeing more leads like this or would like to report any progress based on such, please post back to the forum.

Nobody? Anyone care to

Nobody?

Anyone care to elaborate why they are committed to staying?

My reasons I've mentioned before, but I'd like to hear what others have to add.

I believe I've mentioned

I believe I've mentioned before that I have worked in Austin only once in the past 10 years. Dallas, Houston, other places; Austin one time. Not that I didn't try; someone outside the Austin area always came through first.

Of course that's contract so relocation is temporary. Still...

I believe that staying in

I believe that staying in South Texas is possible if "one" only wanted to go 80 miles south to San Antonio. The market down here is opening up and there are empty seats. Almost not a relocation. Then again, if you weigh a cardboard box under I-35 to a home even more affordable than those in Austin...Mmmm?

PS: The weather is fine, the tacos great, the beer cold etc.

Well, as I've said before...

Well, as I've said before... I get the occasional call or email about jobs outside of Austin, but they are seldom if ever from SA... Maybe once or twice in the last 8 years and they weren't strong enough opportunities at the time to tempt me. Most of the recruiters I get pinging me are recruiting for opportunities in Houston, DFW or on the coasts. That I'm sure is about 99% the same as what I said last time this came up.

However, my situation is not the same as everyone else's, so if you know people down there who are looking for candidates, we got people around here looking for opportunities and maybe someone in South Austin (or even better Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, New Braunfels, etc) might be willing to commute.

Strawman post. Anyone who is

Strawman post.

Anyone who is interested in IT jobs in San Antonio, I suspect that there are introductions to be made.

Clearly you have no idea

Clearly you have no idea what a straw man argument is. Giving yourself as an example does not fit that type of argument...

Please feel free to make the introductions for anyone who here who might be interested in pursuing IT jobs in San Antonio. They've been asked to come forward, but I can't get behind them and shove.

So it was a

So it was a misrepresentation of your own position and not someone elses (you're the one who feigned surprise that no one would consider it). So, forget it.

If anyone is seriously interested being introduced, let me know. I'm finished for now.

What about my position do

What about my position do you think is a misrepresentation? What I said is absolutely true -- no recruiters from SA have been reaching out to me. Not that it matters because I've laid out in the past the reasons why commuting to SA or relocating aren't something I'd consider right now. I can go back over that if you've forgotten. If anyone else around here has had recruiters pitching SA opportunities at them I'd be happy to hear about it.

I think you have totally misunderstood the whole purpose of this thread. I was just trying to help people around here out by sharing leads that I am not interested in. FWIW, that wasn't feigning surprise, I was just trying to spur some discussion. And I am honestly at least a little surprised that nobody will come forward to at least talk about the possibilities of relocating.
