Level 1 – Storage Administrator

Location: Taylor, TX
Duration: 880 hours
NOTE: This opportunity could turn into a full time position
Responsible for maintaining enterprise level storage infrastructure. Architects, designs, plans, implements, administers, controls and provides support and optimization of Storage Area Networks (SANs) and pooled storage systems in coordination with other IT teams and related functions.
Skills/Knowledge:
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of tape media and backup policies
• Basic knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting, testing, and performance tuning in SAN platforms
• Basic knowledge of SAN best practices for current VMware, AIX, Windows, and Linux operation systems, Files systems, SQL Server, Oracle, and Exchange
• Experience with server operating systems (AIX, Windows, and Linux)
• Basic knowledge of Fibre Channel SAN concepts and technologies
• Basic network administration skills, excellent knowledge in hardware equipment, and basic database knowledge
• Experience in technology troubleshooting methodologies, design, and implementation
• Able to resolve problems in a timely manner, and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Hands on experience with managing the NetBackup platform / products
Job Duties/Complexity:
• Supports a 24x7 operation, and carry a cell phone and/or pager
• Manages and administrates an enterprise level backup and recovery suite
• Manages and administrates an enterprise backup tape system
• Maintains proper backup schedules, restore and recover data as requested, and facilitate off-site storage of tape
• Works appropriate moderate level infrastructure tasks and tickets
• Defines, schedules, and implements infrastructure maintenances
• Develops standards and policies for respective technology domain
• Assists in writing technical and operational management documentation (system design and engineering documents, operational run books)
• Works cross-functionally with various departments daily
• Helps develop and implement standards and finds areas of opportunity for automation and efficiencies for day to day operations
• Monitors and maintains all SAN infrastructures
• Works with vendors to resolve escalated hardware and software issues
• Capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure
• Ensures completeness and compatibility of the technical infrastructure to support system stability and performance
• Keeps well informed of new technology
Supervision:
• Requires limited assistance to perform duties
• Mentors support teams
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Requires 4+ years of information and systems administration experience
• Requires experience with Symantec NetBackup
• Storage Networking Certification Program (SNCP), preferred
• EMC/Hitachi – 4+ yrs
