Senior Software Program Manager
Altera Corporation is seeking a deeply experienced, Senior Software Program Manager to join our team in Austin, TX. As a member of the Embedded Systems Group, you will manage the delivery of software tools and infrastructure for our Embedded Processor offerings, including low-level libraries, system modeling tools, and operating systems. You will also interact frequently with other groups in Sales/Marketing, R&D, and IC Design to coordinate both cross-function and with partners and third-parties. The position requires a strong leader with a thorough understanding of embedded platform development. You should possess the ability to juggle multiple, concurrent software projects which may follow unique software development lifecycles, models, and processes, depending upon the release mechanism and delivery target. Agility and adaptability is key, as we are moving swiftly to enable our customers in this rapidly expanding, competitive landscape. Your specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
• Negotiate requirements with internal and external customers
• Track and forecast resources and schedules for individual projects and their program roll-ups
• Report status, analyze and diffuse conflicts, and communicate resolutions and updates to stakeholders and executive management
• Work closely with engineering management and SQA to recommend and implement process improvement initiatives
• Coordinate software teams spanning multiple time zones, geographies, and cultures
The successful candidate's minimum qualifications will include the following:
• BS/BA in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
• At least 10 years experience in program/project management of embedded software systems or software development tools
• Solid knowledge and understanding of software development methods and key practices, e.g. Agile, test-driven development, estimation and models, etc.
• Comfortable with software engineering tools, such as UML, requirements management, test frameworks, software configuration management and issue/bug tracking
• Proven record of shipping complex, commercial software systems
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
