Answering Software Janitor's questions.... :)

I was born and raised in San Antonio and swore I would never move back once I left for college a little over 10 years ago.

Nearly 3 years ago I stepped into the world of recruiting/sourcing. I got my start with T-Mobile's Engineering Recruiting team as a contractor and did two contract gigs with them. I also worked for Deloitte as a contract sourcer on a 6 month (which turned into 10 month) contract as well. I have always said that contracting was a lot like dating. And, in mid 2007, I decided I was ready to settle down!

I know I look like such a young thing in my picture (ok--you can all stop laughing now) but, I have 3 small adorable, yet VERY energetic little boys(ages 4, 2, and 8 weeks. Since my entire family lives in SA I decided it was time to move back to my hometown where my kids could be raised near family.

For a couple of years now I have been hearing so many good things about Rackspace and the future plans they have to turn San Antonio into a more desirable place to live. Honestly, I wasn't exactly sure what Rackspace actually did as a company, but I knew that I wanted to find out as much information as I could seeing it was generating so much talk in SA. I started off by "googling" Rackspace and reading everything I could find on the company, its competition and the direction it was projected to go....oh yeah....I also had to "google" web hosting, colocation, etc...sad, I know.

It seemed to happen so fast but before I knew it, there was a Recruiter job opening at "The Rack" and I knew that was the position for me! I found the job on linkedin....(so FYI--if you aren't using linkedin, you are living under a rock)....I immediately applied for the position! I went through a couple of phone interviews and one very LONG face to face interview with the entire recruiting team and viola---here I am!

So it has been 3 months since I became a "Racker" and I absolutely love it! The company really, truly cares about its employees and their customers. What I love about Rackspace is the people who work here WANT to be here! It's a culture in itself and a 2nd family altogether. The future holds many exciting things for Rackspace and I am stoked to be a part of it! We are hiring 3,000 folks within the next 3 years and I am honored to be one of the people who help bring on such growth.

I will be at the happy hour on the 24th! I hope to meet all of you in person---this board is great!

That's great - I'm glad to

That's great - I'm glad to hear there are still companies that create such a good atmosphere for employees. My father-in-law worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber for 30 years, right out of college until retirement. It was the kind of company that would sponsor plays for their employees, boxing matches on-site, and Christmas parties each year for employees & families. Many big companies were like that years ago: They were Google before Google was a twinkle in DARPA's eye.

Way to go on going after and getting the job you wanted!

Rackspace wants to hire 3000 in the next 3 years? Holy cow! That's a lot of happy hours! :)

I'll look forward to meeting you next Thursday. Cheers!

Matt

Thanks for the answers...

Thanks for the answers... Of the 3000 people, can you give a guess as to how many will be in San Antonio, and how many in Austin? And can you give some idea of the kinds of jobs they will be... tech support, sales, sysadmin, QA, developers? What kinds of skill sets and technologies will you be looking for? Yeah, I know... more questions! Hope I'm not being too inquisitive...
