Anyone interested in a LAN (networked) videogaming party?

Submitted by zratchet on Mon, 01/28/2008 - 8:10am.

I know a place in town that supports around 50 people. Not a huge capacity I know, but if we wanted to support more, we'd probably need sponsors.

Anyway, the place in question is in Central Austin and has all the latest consoles and high-end PCs with a good mix of games.

Just putting out a feeler to see if anyone's interested. :)

Unfortunately I have other commitments at the moment which make getting away in the evening for more than an hour or so a problem.

RTS are good too. Now we just have to nail down a date. Sometime after GDC (ends Feb 22nd) ?

Maybe we can help.

I know a certain group of teenagers on a local robotics team who have been trying to organize a LAN game -- ostensibly as a fundraiser, but really they just want to pwn some professional engineers. Their biggest challenge has been location.

Please contact me [via door64 or linkedin] if we could talk.

What kind of location do you need? How big a space?

Tek Republik ( http://tekrepublik.com ) is where I was thinking of doing it, just need to be able to pay the fees to rent out the place. Though I'm friends with the owner, not sure if that will get me anything special or not though. It'll hold 50 people and they have 20 computers, BYOC space, and all the next-gen consoles, as well as 2 projectors and a few HDTVs.

Is this place in Northcross Mall? How much are they asking for the whole place? How long would the event go on?

Let me know what y'all decide. If its just a few people and we are using BYOC we could do a house, I have enough ports to hook up 8 people but we would be huddled on floors..ahem. Or if you have wireless set up then we have lotsa room.
Do we have a body count?

Depends on the date, set a date and I'll check my sked.

Tek Republik is on North Loop and Burnet. They can hold about 50 people. They can do allnighters and various other event types (daypasses etc). Would need to see what the cost will be (if we need sponsors) based on how much interest there is. How would March 15 or 16 be (the weekend after SXSW?)
