twitter, jaiku, pownce and other "presence" apps

Do you tweet on twitter? Do you pownce? Are you too busy to run a full on blog so you use twitter or jaiku to post updates?

I got a twitter account early and was in the top 5 for a while but have fallen to 39th on the list of most fans on twitter ( http://twitter.com/springnet ) because I fell off the map for a while on twitter. But recently I've found quite a few new tools and ways to use twitter ( http://del.icio.us/springnet/twitter ) . . . I tried jaiku and pownce but I only really have time for one presence app and twitter seems to have the most people and the most prominence.

Twitter played at big role at the last http://sxsw.com/interactive and I think that conference actually kick started it and got it on the map.

http://hellotxt.com let's you simultaneously post to twitter, jaiku, pownce, plaxo, facebook, and a bunch more. Just type your text once and it hits all these social networking and presence sites.

Will twitter once again be the rage of http://sxsw.com? Last one would have to have been called the "twitter sxsw" or the "year of twitter"... will it repeat or will another app jump up and be the darling of this years sxsw?

I haven't gotten into the Twitter craze yet. Well, I shouldn't say craze....but I suppose I don't understant the potential benefits of it yet. Maybe someone can enlighten me about how they find it useful.

I find it useful because I have nearly 3,000 "followers" (sounds like I'm a cult leader doesn't it?) and every time I "tweet" about a blog entry or my lifecast they all come running! Well, some of them do anyway.

There's also a cool filtering site that let's me form "groups" of people that I can message directly without waking up the whole global village.

See http://del.icio.us/springnet/twitter for a boatload of twitter related sites and add ons and rationalizations for why you should fritter away your time on twitter.

Oh and the most useful part is that I get tweets from Scoble and others during sxsw about hot parties and bbq's ... if you're going to sxsw and want to get hot tips on hot events add http://twitter.com/springnet to the people you follow.

I decided to join Twitter just to see what it was all about and the first thing I find is that they don't have a good search feature. MMM...not sure what to do with it. Guess I better check out springnet's links.

Just hit 7,000 twitter followers, heavily weighted toward Austin followers, and found a great way to keep track of all this twitter activity:

http://tweetdeck.com - it's an Adobe Air app that loads on your Mac or PC desktop and is a full featured control deck for twitter. There's even a somewhat less robust version for Linux which I haven't tried yet.
