Bob Carnaghi has requested / recommended we cover compiling php/apache from source. I will put together a demo of how do do this under CENTOS 4 Linux (free version of RHEL 4). Here are things I plan to cover:

1) compile basic PHP and Apache from source
2) Compile MySQL from source
3) recompile PHP to add/remove libraries, and understanding library dependencies
4) how to compile and add PECL or external shared libraries to PHP
5) Why bother compiling any of it from source when it comes with your Linux distro?
6) How to make RPM packages of your custom setup so you can put it easily on multiple servers

Just a reminder: this meetup will be held at Region XIII Educational Service Center at 5701 Springdale Road. See the link below for a map. If you need directions at the last minute, my cell number is 832-797-3400.
