Why the need for a specific Ubuntu group vs. the three Linux groups we already have?

Why the need for three Trudy's restaurants? Only one should suffice to feed all of Austin. :)

So does your group meet regularly? What's the vibe - beginners, developers?

Matt -- I wasn't intending to come across as negative, although after re-reading my post I suppose it could be taken that way... I'd be interested to hear the answers to your questions also... I mostly wonder why be Ubuntu specific, I like Ubuntu, and I realize it is very popular, but there are other distros which are worthy competitors, and I just have to wonder if there is really a "critical mass" of Ubuntu users in the Austin area...

Oh, I should also clarify... I actually use Kubuntu for most of my desktop/laptop machines these days, since I prefer KDE to Gnome. Would Kubuntu (or Xubuntu, Edubuntu, etc) users also be welcome?

The group started at part of the following push:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeams

It's fairly new, the mailing list is at:
http://groups.google.com/group/ubuntu-austin

I think there are a lot of ubuntu users, I know I meet a new one in on a regular basis. I think distro specific groups are just a useful as generic ones. I like the idea of ubuntu use groups, specifically because the platform moves quickly. Maybe the others do as well (I know Debian is known not to alone) and it's nice not to have others watching with you so don't have to know everything all the time ;-}

I'm sure all flavors of ubuntu users are welcome as well as non-ubuntu users..

Fair enough... I will check it out...

Ubuntu might just be the next big thing. More specifically, it has a user base growing like wildfire, it has a great user interface, it's easy to install as a server and as a desktop and it has great driver support. It's the gorilla in the room.
