Hi all, I'm new to the forum but have been in Austin for 10 years now. I'm currently a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator up on the North side of town. I do Solaris and Linux, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a big stretch to pick up the other flavors.
I'm hoping to meet other techies in town to chat with, maybe find some job opportunities and always help where I can.
Bye for now,
Eric

Hi! First off, welcome! Well, you can meet other tech folks right on here - good first start. Of course, our next happy hour in March will make that task even easier.
There are a number of job opportunities posted on here. You can also find some recruiting & staffing people in the Jobs section (Recruiter Yellow Pages) who could be your eyes and ears in the job market.
Cheers,
Matt

Great to have you. In spite of the "news" there are many jobs out there. I have noticed that companies are producing those wish lists of qualifications and sticking to them pretty well. Watch for the smaller companies. Check out the business page in the Statesman or Austin Business Journal to find out what is out there. Also if you are looking for work check out http://www.launchpadjobclub.com as a possible resource.

Texas economy is booming, some of the lowest if not the lowest unemployment in the USA.
One place where $103.50/barrel oil actually helps the economy. Not that that it the only reason.
