Virtualization

My current focus at my job is global virtualization. I have been working with virtualization technologies for around 8 years, primarily VMware over the last few years.

I also run a virtualization blog at http://blog.cretec-web.com which I started recently in January.

The reason I bring this up is I wanted to know if there are any virtualization user groups, beyond the official VMware (VMUG). It is good, but to one sided. If not I am trying to see if there would be enough interest if there was not already one that I did not know about.

I haven't heard of anything yet. I do use VMWare Fusion on my MBP - works great. Are there VMUG's around the country? I wasn't aware of them.

Yeah VMware runs them in most major cities. They are good, but since they are run by VMware they do not go into things like Xen Server and other virtualization technologies out there.

I'm a xen user and I'm using Sun's zones. I'm not aware of any specific virtualization user groups, but almost all of the unix user groups have had this as a topic at one point or another.

If you round up enough people interested in foruming such a group in Austin/Central Texas, I'll create a forum & group for you on door64.

Thanks for the offer. I actually have a web server that I can host it on, if I get enough people. I went ahead and purchased a domain "virtualaustin.org" as well just in case. Threw up a portal there to play around with.

If I do not get enough people, oh well cost me $8. ;)
