job hunters: what are you looking for?

Those of you who are looking for jobs, what role are you looking for?

(If you don't put it out into the world, how will it find you?)

I'll go first:

Strategic marketing role at a high-tech startup, working with smart people and for someone who knows that marketing is more than just website content management and press releases

The things that I'm looking for:

An opportunity in software development or software development/IT.
I strongly prefer to work in an open systems environment.
Something with a decent compensation package.

I'm not really all that picky I don't think. There are other things I look for, but I'm willing to compromise on most of them.

FWIW, I'm currently working and gave up actively looking a while ago so I am more or less only a "passive" candidate at the moment.

Actively persuing a Software QA Managment/Lead role, where automation is a focal point of the QA effort, and the tools to do so are not "set in stone". Just started learning Ruby and have a design for an automation framework using WATIR that should work for most web apps that run on IE (other browswers to follow).

I am available immediately (that is, could start Monday).

Now I know that there have to be more people out there that are in the job market... Anyone else care to chime in?

tamer, I like how you put that: "...marketing is more than just website content management and press releases." I hear ya!

I too would like to be in a start-up, small, or medium sized company, working in an executive capacity making good decisions that affect the well-being of the company. I aspire to be General Manager or equivalent, with strategic and P&L responsibilities. The sector does not necessarily need to be tech, but tech and tangible products are my strength.

I've started two companies for personal use, and I was a near-founder of a third company that actually took off and reached $58M in annual revenue within a few years.

I seek to eliminate dysfunction because it costs money in tangible ways. I focus on creating operations that are sustainable under pressure, and I prefer decisions that support the longevity of the company.

I can function in product development, operations, and general management. And a key staff member would be a great marketing person who understands "...marketing is more than just website content management and press releases."

Production or Design in a small game dev team.

I'll chime in, if I may:

.NET software project lead for a small-ish company doing design/architecture with a few senior developers and one or two junior-to-mediume developers and a tester or test-minded developer.

Doing some form of Agile development (preferably Scrum+XP) with involvement and participation from the top (i.e. I take Agile seriously: It's a cultural change in your org towards communication and managing the value stream of the product, not just something developers do).

Having heavy customer involvement in the design and formation of the software.

Finally, I want this company to be down in South Austin so that the commute doesn't burn out all my motivation.

There's one out there, I know it...

Advanced Product Development Device Technician for an aggressive semiconductor manufacturer. I'd love to substitute Engineer for Technician, but I don't have the piece of paper that would allow that level of employment. I've had the rug pulled out from under me, so many times, while trying to finish my degree... but, that's a different topic.

But, if I had all the credentials, I'd have a hard time choosing between all my varied interests. There's software development. -or- I'd love to delve into bio-fuels development, for example. Or new energy sources. I do a lot of personal research (the reading type) on those two subjects. I'm also interested in genetics research (something that was in its infancy when I was a lad in school). The list goes on and on....

But, since I do have a lot of experience in semiconductor products development as a device tech, and I enjoy the work, I'm quite happy to go with the flow. The electron flow?

Anyone know where I can find this elusive position?
