Start-up Mentoring Workshop - May 17, 2008
5th annual Rice Alliance forum for entrepreneurs

The Rice Alliance-Austin Chapter presents the fifth annual Start-Up Mentoring Workshop on Saturday May 17th. Prior events have been well attended and packed with useful information for start-up teams. Don't miss it!

There are three ways to participate – a morning open enrollment “how to” class and private qualified mentoring in the afternoon.

Attend “Start-Ups 101” in the morning to learn what’s needed to effectively launch your new business.

"Start-ups 101" is an interactive classroom experience providing how-to guidance for early-stage teams. We discuss the tradeoffs between raising outside capital and bootstrapping, how bootstrapping works, tips on soliciting VC funds, and key legal and financial considerations. The program is structured with plenty of time for questions and answers.

The morning tutorial is available to any interested entrepreneur. Pre-registration for "Start-ups 101 Tutorial" costs only $20 through May 14th. Onsite registration costs $40 if space is available. The program starts at 9:30 AM and concludes at 12:30 PM. Lunch will be provided.

Receive private feedback on your in-flight business or planned new enterprise from experienced mentors in the afternoon.

These individual mentoring sessions are set up to coach you and your leadership team on how to address near-term opportunities and challenges. Selected entrepreneurs present their current business plan and receive real-time feedback from a group of five-to-six mentors. Typical sessions address issues around strategy, finance, management, marketing, technical and legal issues. Mentoring sessions require the submission of a business plan and are not open to the public.

If you are interested in applying for a mentoring session, please visit Mentor Program for more information. Applications, comprised of executive summary business plan and contact information, should be submitted to austinmentors@austinricealliance.org by April 25th.

Mentoring occurs from 12:30 - 2:00. There is no charge associated with the mentoring.

Are you interested in serving as a mentor? We are seeking experts for the afternoon sessions.

We seek qualified and accomplished professionals to provide expert guidance to startups. If you are interested in serving in this capacity please contact us at austinmentors@austinricealliance.org by April 30th.

This program is a great resource for start-up teams.

Feedback from previous attendees has been very positive:

"All in all, time well spent for us."
"We got a lot of feedback during our review session, some of which we are acting upon already."
"The event was a really a success. I’m happy that I took the time to come to Austin."
