PMI TechLIG - Successful Execution with Multi-location Teams

Description: Whether your team is dispersed on different floors within the same building or spans multiple global cultures, added care and techniques need to be deployed to keep everything on-time and on- budget. In this session we will explore some of the various challenges and solutions for successful execution with a multi-location team. After an overview presentation, there will be a panel of executives sharing their approaches followed by a Q&A period.

Panel Bios: Doreen Galli came to Austin as part of the Dell IT Executive Team. At Dell, her team resided in 6 locations and 4 continents. Prior to Dell, she had a multi-location teams as the CIO for DHL Mail and as an IBM Executive. She has been recognized as one of the Top 25 Women on the Web, has a book published by Prentice Hall, is a patent holder, and historically was the architect for Websphere’s Proof of Concept. Galli has a triple-major bachelors from Eckerd College along with a Master’s and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo.

Michael Beamer is currently the Global IT Applications Director for National Instruments. In this role Michael is responsible for all aspects of growing and running a global team of Application Developers, DBA’s and Applications Administrators that provide IT software solutions for National Instruments. Specifically, the IT Applications Group at NI provides solutions for Sales, Marketing, Service, Finance, HR, Manufacturing, Engineering and National Instruments award winning web site ni.com. Michael is also responsible for developing and running National Instruments IT Governance Process and PMO or Project Management Office. Michael is a 1992 Graduate from UT Austin.

Steve Farabee is the President of Texas Home Technology that enables consumers to make the most of their home technology. Prior to starting his own business, Farabee spent over 24 years in various positions of increasing responsibility in the telecommunications industry. Most recently, as Vice President of Operations for the central Texas division of Time Warner Cable from 2002 to 2007, Farabee was responsible for call center operations, field installation and service and walk-in retail centers. He led a team of over 900 customer care professionals in 10 locations throughout central Texas.

Russ Finney has spent fourteen years as the Vice President & CIO of the US operations of Tokyo Electron, one of the world's largest semiconductor production equipment manufacturers supporting customers in Asia, Europe, and the US. In 2006, he was named “Austin IT Executive of the Year” by his peers at the annual Innotech technology conference. Russ currently serves on the high tech advisory board of the Austin Chamber of Commerce’s AusTech Alliance. In the past, he served on the National Board of Directors of AITP, and was president of both the Houston and Austin AITP Chapters. Before TEL, Russ was an IT Consultant with Ernst & Young.

Anupam Govil is a global business technology leader who has advised firms across Asia, Europe and North America on optimizing offshore strategies and leveraging global delivery models. He is Founder and CEO of Global Equations, a leading Offshore Advisory firm providing strategy, sourcing and cross-border M&A services to mid-market companies, private equity funds and service providers. He has advised and assisted Outsourcing and Technology firms on their global expansion plans through a combination of strategic consulting, cross-border acquisitions and advisory roles. Former positions include: Co-founder, Inventes Inc; Partner, 2i Capital; Senior Associate, Igate Ventures; Igate Corp and Tata Unisys Ltd

Amanda Justice Nutt serves as a Senior Client Executive at Capgemini, where she oversees sales and delivery of all project based consulting. In this role, she is responsible for the global delivery of all business and technology solutions for clients in the central TX area. She is responsible for clients including, Dell, HP, Apple, Temple Inland, AMD, Freescale and Continental Airlines, just to name a few. As an influential industry thought leader, Ms. Nutt is an active philanthropist and entrepreneur in the Central TX area and sits on the board of several non-profit organizations, such as Association for Corporate Growth and the Association for Women in Technology. She is also involved as an investor and board advisor for several start ups in the Austin community such as Easy Communities, The C Forum, Sparksight and InnoTech.

Jayaraman Raghuraman (Raghu), Director of IT for Dell's Corporate and Decision Support Systems group, leads the planning and governance, Reliability and the ERP technical services teams. Raghu also has direct responsibility for the international development centers in India and Brazil that are functionally responsible for developing the corporate financial, order management, business intelligence as well as the employee and enterprise systems for Dell. Prior to this Raghu led various teams in Dell's Global Manufacturing and Fulfillment Systems group. Raghu has over 23 years of experience leading global teams in at Citicorp, i2 technologies and now at Dell.

Beth Weeks is currently the VP of Engineering at Zilliant, an industry leading Price Optimization and Management enterprise software company. She has 20 years experience building highly productive teams and leveraging valuable offshore teams in the mix. Prior to Zilliant, she numerous leadership roles at Vignette Corporation where she gained valuable experience building an enterprise application suite containing content management, portal and eCommerce capabilities. Prior to Vignette, Weeks held several engineering leadership roles while working for Intergraph Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama. Weeks graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky with degrees in both computer science and mathematics.
