So here's the latest stats on the door64 High-Tech Career Fair and Networking Night on August 7th:
Socializr invite #1: http://www.socializr.com/event/450126923
Invited 4995 people, 406 RSVP'd + 86 total guests = 492 attendees.
111 maybes
4200 not responded yet. Yikes!
I had to create a second invite because I maxed the first one out (there's a first for everything!)
Socializr invite #2: http://www.socializr.com/event/476922095
Invited 284 people, 43 RSVP'd + 17 total guests = 60
3 maybes
230 not responded yet.
So total expected is over 550 over the day and evening. My attendee survey tells me that 91% of the people are hitting the networking event that night, so we should have a full house.
Currently we have 14 employers signed up, with another 4-5 spots available for companies who still want to get in on the action.
Now, all those statistics aside....I'm excited about this event. We're getting people who are looking for tech jobs right in front of people who have them. That personal connection cannot be replaced. No email, no phone calls; we're talking real-time, face-to-face.
Job seekers, my suggestion is to dress up a bit. Suit and tie isn't required, but look schnazzy (as my grandmother would say). Bring a folder with copies of your most current, well-written, and up-to-date resume. Also bring business cards for the networking night (I have learned you should never be without them, since one never knows where you'll make a connection.) I like to have my LinkedIn public profile URL listed on my business card, since that single link provides all the details you might want to know. Finally, bring a pad of paper and pen for jotting some notes or reminders. You can probably fit all these items in a folder for carrying around.
Have some other suggestions?
Next time, of course! Considering how much I enjoyed joining in the last Door64 in Austin event, I wish I could come up for this one too. However, August 7th is the day we in San Antonio technology community are coming out to support the proposed location of the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility at the Texas Research Park (see my blog post: Support a National Research Lab in South Texas).
And also fast approaching is the September 4th Technology Connexus Mixer at the San Antonio Technology Center (special event for us just 75 miles to the south - a note to my friends in Austin, without any interference from the Texas policía, its only a bit over an hour).
Good news: We have a couple more companies signing up as of today! Will post their info tonight.
Glad to hear it... unfortunately as I've said before I won't be able to make it this time. I do hope that it is a big success so that it will be the first of many such events.
