Texas 2-1-1 United Way Disaster Response is looking for volunteers
DISASTER RESPONSE:
VOLUNTEERS MAKE THE DIFFERENCE!
2-1-1 Texas is the state's central communication center for people needing help or information. When a disaster strikes, people call 2-1-1 for information about local conditions. 2-1-1 Texas volunteers are needed to answer these crucial calls. Volunteers relay information on shelters and evacuation routes. They direct people who wish to volunteer or donate goods to the agencies that can help them do so. Sometimes, they simply give a sympathetic ear to a stressed caller.
2-1-1 Texas needs volunteers who are caring, compassionate, creative problem solvers who want to directly help the public while working in a comfortable, professional setting. Bilingual speakers and/or experience in social work or information referral are especially valuable.
During a disaster, 2-1-1 Texas volunteers must:
1 Enjoy being on the phone and working with a computer
2 Want to help others
3 Work in a dynamic environment
4 Become acquainted with our easy-to-use information database
5 Remain calm and professional under pressure
6 Respect the sensitivity of confidential information
7 Volunteer for 2 to 4-hour shifts particularly in the evenings or overnight
If you are interested in becoming a Disaster Response Volunteer for 2-1-1 Texas, please contact 2-1-1 or kimberly.blackburn@unitedwaycapitalarea.org.
2-1-1 Texas is a private/public collaboration of the United Ways in Central Texas and Texas HHSC.
