Verification: Emulation usage

Out of curiosity, what is your company's emulation strategy for pre-silicon verification? (I say "pre-silicon" because verification alone can mean pre- or post-silicon, depending where you work).

Where I work, we use the emulator for full-chip testing, as well as for long tests that relate to narrow communication channels (which take a relatively large number of clock cycles to propagate data into the model).

How do you use emulation as part of your overall verification strategy?
