Let's kick-start our local economy by showcasing what our tech businesses are doing, and seeding new relationships...

Tech Fair: The idea...

The goal of this event is to showcase Central Texas technology companies, helping them gain exposure in the local tech community, and helping you to see the landscape of high-tech in Central Texas. Read more...

Why attend?

Imagine speaking with folks from a slew of Central Texas tech companies to learn what they're up to, catching sessions to learn about becoming a consultant or an entrepreneur, attending a panel discussion about the engineer of the future, taking a tour of computer recycling, surveying graduate student research and seeing demos, and networking with other tech folks while eating delicious free food, downing drinks, and rocking the night away with local live music. Did I mention it's all in one day, and all FREE? This is a shot of career adrenaline.

Who should attend?

Well, if you're a member of the door64 community, definitely! If you're a member of IEEE, ACM, local technical user groups, or any other professional engineering associations, you bet! If you're a member of the local angel or VC community, come on out! In other words, if you're involved in the Central Texas high-tech community, this is for you.

Agenda

To say it's a big day is an understatement. Here's what's going on:

  • 3:00pm - 3:50pm: Group Session: An Introduction to The Art of Consulting, by Darrel Raynor, IEEE Consultant Network
  • 4:00pm: Tech Fair ends
  • 4:00pm - 4:30pm: Snack attack (to hold you over), sponsored by IEEE
  • 4:30pm - 5:30pm: Panel discussion, "The Engineer of 2020" with notable industry and academic panelists
  • 6:00pm - 9:00pm: 3rd annual Austin Brain Party celebrating IEEE 125th anniversary for Central Texas engineers and IEEE members: Networking, student exhibits, food, drinks, and music!
Note: You need to RSVP separately for this party.

"The Engineer of 2020" Panel Discussion

Following the Tech Fair, I am excited to host a panel of distinguished local academic and industry professionals. The topic is forward-looking and yet relevant to the engineer of today, encompassing predictions of the not-too-distant engineer of eleven years from now. What transformations are in store for engineers? How will they need to be educated in 2020? What expertise will remain in the U.S. versus becoming off-shored? Come out to listen and participate in the conversation.
