Node & Arduino: A fun Introduction

June 28 @ 7:00 pm

We are teaming up with the bleeding edge meetup to host a meetup on node js and the arduino.

Also checkout their meetup, it’s really good!!

This is a fun introduction by Noah Glaser on learning how to control the Arduino with Node. You will learn a great JavaScript library for this, johnny-five. We’ll also be going over how to use all of this with Express and Socket.io so you can integrate your Node / Arduino projects with the web.

There will be two live demos during the presentation that you will be able to follow along with. You will also have the opportunity to get your hands dirty if you want to. Our two project options are:

1) Node LED: You will integrate the Arduino with an LED and control the light with a Node server (uses Express)

2) Photobooth: You press a giant fun push button and your laptop takes a picture of you (uses Express and Socket.io)

If you would like to participate during the demo project section, please bring a laptop with Node installed. Bonus points if you also install Express and Socket.io 🙂

News From the Bleeding Edge

In addition to the main talk, Corey will start us off with the crowd favorite “News from the Bleeding Edge” segment, in which we’ll discuss all the latest and greatest in browsers and web app development.

Street parking is free after 6pm on Wednesdays. You can also park in the Omni garage, directly under Capital Factory (enter from Brazos) for a flat fee of $5. Don’t forget to ask for a parking validation card before you leave!
